My strategy might deviate from the norm

Initiating the journey as a warlock can prove to be a daunting experience.

The conspicuous absence of a proper melee weapon at the start remains perplexing. Incredulously, most adversaries effortlessly sidestep the effects of hellfire. Moreover, the Curse of Pain spell yields minimal impact. Despite reaching level 6, my successful exit from the goblin caves amounts to a single instance amidst 15 attempts. This prompts me to question my approach. Also, why is it possible to wield a falchion, a longsword, or a zweihander, but a humble short sword remains out of reach?

My strategy might deviate from the norm, but of late, I’ve forsaken spell memory. The sole exception is Curse of Pain, a spell I find indispensable. Instead, I prioritize Phantomize and Blow of Corruption.

Blow of Corruption is undoubtedly the crowning jewel of the warlock arsenal, and I suspect many share this sentiment. Its potency is formidable, particularly when paired with a falchion or a longsword, delivering devastating damage via a well-timed riposte headshot. It’s ideally suited to counter fighters, as it circumvents physical damage resistance and disrupts healing. In fact, I designed my warlock with a specific intent—to vanquish heavily armored adversaries using a longsword, with Blow of Corruption serving as the linchpin. I anticipate a potential nerf for this ability as the rest of the class unfolds.

Presently, Phantomize might not align with the meta, given that most opt for spells alongside Blow of Corruption – a strategy with merit. However, I embrace Phantomize for two key reasons. First, while warlock spells enable self-sustainability and facilitate farming less formidable foes, they struggle to neutralize or deter credible threats unless the situation conveniently aligns for Hellfire. Second, Phantomize serves as a crucial defense against archers, who would otherwise render a warlock vulnerable.

Armed with starter equipment, my approach revolves around cautious maneuvering to evade confrontations. Utilizing Blow of Corruption against NPCs and employing Phantomize to escape quandaries or repel PvP engagements, should they arise. When escape is untenable, I strive to land a Blow of Corruption strike prior to utilizing Phantomize as I await the cooldown.

Following a successful extraction, upgrading to a falchion or longsword, if one wasn’t previously acquired, simplifies matters substantially. My modus operandi remains consistent, albeit with enhanced efficiency in PvE and heightened confidence in PvP scenarios. I evasively handle encounters with wizards, as a fireball while in Phantomize proves lethal. Those who recklessly give chase are the exception among wizards, a group that is gradually thinning out.

My style of play mirrors that of a longsword-wielding fighter. Phantomize functions analogously to Sprint, and Blow of Corruption remains instrumental for emerging victorious in melee exchanges. A firm grasp of parrying amplifies your prowess in close quarters combat. Merely one successful extraction is sufficient to finance a falchion or longsword, enabling a smoother progression.
